Since I rate this deviation by Vision, Originality, Technique, and Impact; That is how I will write this Critique. This is my first online critique, however I have written many for my photography classes. I hope I can help you grow in your photography skills with my Critique.
Vision: 4.5/5 While searching around the photos in the miscellaneous photography section I have found many pocket watches and lockets dangling from trees. What separates those images from this one is your vision of setting. The colors of the tree and blurred background accent the rustic Autumn feel of the locket (or pocket watch?). It seems clear that you had a vision and a plan on what you wanted this picture to look like and I think it turned out beautifully.
Originality: 3.5/5 As I said before there seems to be a lot of photos with this kind of template of dangling trinkets outdoors; however, the techniques you use in this photograph are very well played to give this image an original feel.
Technique: 4/5 I believe you are using a "Bokeh" effect in your photograph. If this is true then you used it skillfully. without using an extreme shape on the filter, you made the backdrop look extremely natural and the effect doesn't distract, but instead enhances the viewers attention to the rest of the photo. Your focus is wonderful, just barely letting the bottom of the watch slip out of focus and not revealing the full tree, but instead just enough for us to understand what it is really makes my mind stay inside the photograph and wonder instead of myself being bored. I'm not sure to what extent this photograph is digitally edited, however if it is, it is not distracting. I think this photograph would be taken to the next level if it utilized the rule of thirds more so then it currently is.
Impact: 4/5 Overall I am really impressed with this photograph. I didn't think that my first Critique would have scored so high. However, your vision and Technique made this picture stunning. I'll defiantly be adding it to my favorites. I would consider looking into the rule of thirds and different ways you can frame this image to take it over the top. I hope this helped and good luck with your future photography!
